WoW Addons

I believe this to be a complete list of the addons I use and recommend. If I forgot anything, I will update. If you have any recommendation, please comment.

Auctioneer Suite - Scans Auction House for prices so when you auction something, you will know the going price and when bidding, you will know if you are getting a deal or overpaying. I use the “Exit WoW when scan is complete” option and when I want to quit, I just set up a scan and walk away.

Titan Panel - Adds an info bar at the top or bottom of your screen so you can quickly see your coords, gold, durability, ammo, XP, FPS, HP/Mana regen, etc.
http://www.wowinterface.com/downloads/info8092-TitanPanel.html

Titan Panel [Itemized Deductions] - An addon to Titan panel which lets you see all grey items in your bags so you can junk the least valuable grey if your bags are full, or if you are at a vendor, sell all your grey items.

Lightheaded - I use this instead of Questhelper. It pulls all the comments from wowhead.com for each quest. The comments are usually helpful to complete the quest and usually have coords. You can click on the coords if you have TomTom, see next.
http://www.wowinterface.com/downloads/info7017-LightHeaded.html

TomTom - You can either click on the coords from lightheaded or just click on the map to get a crazy taxi arrow on your screen telling you how to get there and the distance. You can also share waypoints to your party if they also have TomTom.

Omen - If you are the tank you need to keep your threat above everyone else and if you are a DPS or healer, you need to keep your threat below the tank. In any event, you need to know your threat on a target if you are in a party. Omen is a threat meter.
http://www.wowinterface.com/downloads/info8459-OmenThreatMeter.html

Recount - Want to know your DPS? Or your heals? Or the DPS and heals of anyone in your party? Recount keeps track of damage and heals and is easily resettable when you join different groups. Not a necessity but something fun to look at while you are riding that griffin.

Quest Spam - This is the addon that we use which is whispers in party quest pickup, completion and progression, as well as a DING!!! when you level. It’s actually more beneficial to others in your party than you.
http://wow.curse.com/downloads/wow-addons/details/questspam.aspx

Quartz - It’s a casting bar addon that shows the progress of your casts, enemy casts, and focus, casts. Also shows your latency, buffs and debuffs on your target, and a swing timer.
http://www.wowinterface.com/downloads/info7158-Quartz-ModularCastingBar.html

Atlas - shows maps of instances, bosses, and available loot. More important the more instances you run.
http://www.wowinterface.com/downloads/info3896-Atlas.html

AtlasLoot Enhanced - allows loot tables of bosses to be browsed whenever needed within the game. It can access full item tooltips, show drop rates, allow items to be chat linked and to use the dressing room.
http://www.wowinterface.com/downloads/info5541-AtlasLootEnhanced.html

Fishing Buddy - If you own a fishing pole, download this.
http://www.wowinterface.com/downloads/info4239-FishingBuddy.html

Ackis Recipe List - puts a button on your trade window (blacksmithing, cooking, etc) that lets you see all the recipes in the game for that profession plus who sells it or where it drops.

Obamanation

See, this is why I hate politics, all politics, in general:
“I want to be realistic here. Not everything that we talked about during the campaign are we going to be able to do on the pace we had hoped,” Obama told ABC’s “This Week” for an interview set to air Sunday.”
That’s his was of gently saying “Don’t believe anything I’ve said or promised, but I gotta be better than Bush. If not, I’ll just blame it all on him anyway.”

Bookmarks? But no one reads books any more…

I have come to realize that the majority of updating I do this site is updating links on my sidebar instead of actual posting. I guess this site has really become just a place to have all my bookmarks on the web, so I can access them from anywhere and on any computer. Well, all but my financial ones. I was wondering if there is a site/service/company that does this. I was thinking, for free, you could log into a site and it would have all your bookmarks which could be opened in new windows. You could pay a little more (like $9/yr) for a secure login if you wanted to store personal links like financial ones. Not that the free one is open or anything - you still would need a log in. I’m sure Yahoo or Google could pull this off and if they do, I better be getting a royalty check. Would any of you use something like this? Let me know what you think.

new page

I created a new page “WoW Characters” featuring the server and character names for me & Sara’s WoW characters. I did this so if you ever decide to join, you can create a toon on one of our servers and play with us. We can also join you if you want. It also has links to our Armory pages which will save a lot of room in my bookmarks! =P With the new expansion coming out in less than two months, we will be playing for a while. The new patch looks to be a significant change to game play - all for the better as I can tell.

petit mise à jour

Just a little update here. I haven’t been doing too much lately. Work is pretty stressful with vacations and everything. One co-worker has been out 17 out of the last 25 business days (worked 8 days in 5 weeks!) and my other co-worker took a week off too plus every Friday from June through September. This has left me by myself for most of June and July, doing every project in the company. Plus, they have upped my responsibility on an already stressful job without any more authority. This has left most of my routine work on the back burner, which then of course, starts its own problems. I also had to train a couple new people in other offices over the phone, which I normally actually enjoy, but it is just adding to the problems now.
OK, enough about me ranting about work. Other than playing WOW and enjoying Shark Week on Discovery, Sara and I have been catching up on some movies. That’s pretty rare for us. We normally only see a couple movies a year because we have Netflix and hate the crowds at movie theatres. We saw Hancock, Kung-Fu Panda, Get Smart, Indiana Jones & Incredible Hulk. That’s like three years of movies for us! They were all really good and I enjoyed them all. I am excited to see Dark Knight but I’m waiting for the crowds to dissipate. I also really want to check out Step Brothers, Swing Vote, WALL-E, Pineapple Express & the new X-Files. On Netflix we just checked out Transformers which I thought was great. It could use some more action though…JK!
We’re going to the shore this weekend so hopefully I’ll have some fresh pictures on my photoblog. Brad & Doug, you should make them for your kids. Have pictures of the week or something like that. Come on, kids are a great excuse to be geeky plus your family & friends will enjoy them! Anyways – that’s all for now. Take care!

Gas Crunch

Literal Barrage’s quest for a new minivan sparked an idea I had that I just sort of passed off. When Sara was buying a new car at the beginning of this month (July), she wanted a small, fuel efficient compact car. She also wanted a 4-door since they seem a little more practical and useful – both for our nephews and friends now and possibly children of our own in the future. The problem was we couldn’t find one anywhere! Our local Toyota dealer had one Corolla which was a top of the line XLS and was about 28k. They didn’t know when they were getting more. They hadn’t seen a Prius in a while. Honda dealers expected Civic hybrids by the end of August and they had one on the lot but it was just for test drives. I heard a story on the Civic forums about a man in Minnesota bought a dealer show car model for $32k. I don’t know if it’s true or not. As far as regular Civics were concerned, the two dealers we went to probably had three or four coupes on the lot that Sara was not interested in and one or two 4-doors in either beige or red, neither of which Sara wanted. The beige car, which I agree with Sara, does not look good in the futuristic looking Civic, and her last car was the same exact tone of red and she wanted something different. Hey, if she has to look at it every day for the next 10 years, she better like the way it looks! The expect to get more in a month that you could order, but only like two or three more so they wanted a down payment to reserve it. There was one blue 4-Door Civic at the second dealer we went to but it was sold to another dealership in an inter-dealer trade or something like that. They liked the idea of Sara paying in cash a little better so they sold it to her and some other poor dealership got screwed. Subaru was an increasingly similar story. They had one Impreza Outback which is the wagon but Sara didn’t like it and a WRX which was out of our price range. They seemed to think they could get one rather quickly but their lot was pretty barren. Mazda was the exception, as long as you like the lower trim Sport model of their Mazda3. They had about 10-12 on their lot. They did have 2 Touring models which I thought was worth the extra cash with a little bump in HP, an extra gear in the slushbox (5spd vs 4spd auto), and stability control. Sara thought it was a great little car that accelerated and braked better than the Civic, but the styling won her over to the Honda side. We didn’t check out Nissan because she thought the Versa and Sentra are ugly and boxy. We also skipped VW as she didn’t want to buy a German car for her parent’s sake, even though Jetta’s are made in Mexico/US/Canada like all the others. Chevy’s Cobalt and Malibu were solid cars, but didn’t feel up to the quality of the others. This was offset by great financing and good deals. Honestly if we just drove to the Chevy dealership, either one would have been good enough to buy – until you compare it to something else. There were no Fords, Chryslers, or Dodges and interested her. We were going to check out the Mitsubishi Lancer, but other than rave reviews on looks (and it was my favorite looking as well), it fell far short on all other attributes and was comparatively expensive. We were going to check out Hyundai, but ran out of time. We didn’t think it was going to offer anything significant over anything else we looked at. Kia? Nothing going on there…She also drove the Accord, Camry & Lancer – all of which she liked but not more than the cheaper Civic. So I guess the point of all this is if you are looking a compact car, be prepared to hear “These things are selling like mad! We’re all out, have a nice day.” Is this just a NJ thing or is this going on where you all live?

New Photoblog

I just started a new photoblog and I want to upload my artsy or cool photos there. The compression of the first image I uploaded looks a bit much, but I will try it out for the next few weeks and see how it goes. Let me know what you think. Here is the link!
